Youth Ski League

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN! - 2026 Youth Ski League

Registration for our 2026 Youth Ski League is now open!
After December 15th, there will be a $30 late registration fee. Registration for all programs will close on December 31st at midnight. 

All youth ski league programs run for 8 weeks starting the week of January 5th, 2026. 

Please note - the price of rental packages are NOT included in the course fee. All gear rentals are paid for upon pick up.

Little Steppers

This is a classic only program for skiers 6-8 years old who are brand new to cross country skiing. Kids will learn how to balance and glide on classic skis through instruction and games.
Classic skis are required and are available for rent.

WHERE: XC ski trails at Pine Street Woods

WHEN: An 8 week program beginning Jan 7th

Wednesday, 3:30 - 4:30

COST: $100 if registered by Dec 15th
After Dec 15th, there is a late registration fee of an additional $30

Rental skis are not included in the course fee. 
Rental ski packages are available for the season and includes skis, boots, and poles. Pricing and pick up dates are listed at the bottom of this page. Additional pick up times will be posted as the season begins.

 

 

Classic Recreation Team

This is a great entry level program is for skiers age 7-12 who are interested in learning to XC ski. The Classic Rec Team is great for kids newer to XC skiing as well as those with experience who want to ski for fun and stay fit during the winter. 

The focus will be on fun, skill acquisition, and team building!

Skate Recreation Team

This is a beginner/intermediate program for skiers age 8+ who are interested in learning to skate ski. The Skate Team moves at a faster pace than the classic group and has a stronger focus on progressing skills. It's a great entry point for kids who are already comfortable with the basics of classic skiing and are newer to skate skiing as well as those with experience who want to ski for fun and stay fit during the winter.

*Skiers interested in learning to skate ski should already be comfortable with the basics of classic skiing!

Teen Rec Team (aka Chill Chasers)

This program is for beginner/intermediate skiers 12+ who are interested in learning how to XC ski. We will learn both classic and skate ski techniques in a laid back, exploratory manner. Participants will ski for fun and fitness while learning and growing their nordic skills in two disciplines.

Both classic and skate skis are required for participation in the teen rec team and are available for rent.

Development Team

This program is for intermediate skiers who have classic and skate ski experience and have an interest in taking their technique to the next level. This group has a strong athletic focus and works toward developing a foundation for ski racing.

Skiers should already be comfortable skiing all the XC trails in Pine Street Woods in both techniques.

The development team offers a mix of fun and purpose driven fitness development. 

Both classic and skate skis are required for participation in the development team and are available for rent.

Race Team

This program is for experienced skiers ready to step into racing.  Led by former Olympic US Team member, Rebecca Dussault, this is a fun, supportive program covering all aspects of XC competition. Skiers on the race team will be expected to participate in fundraising efforts to support the costs and fees for attending regional races.

Skiers should already be comfortable skiing all the XC trails in Pine Street Woods in both techniques.

Both classic and skate skis are required for participation in the race team and are available for rent.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays  3:30 - 4:30

COST: $270 if registered by Dec 15th

These events are a great opportunity to be with community, test your skills, and have some fun:

Over 10 years ago, some friends convinced my brother and I to sign up for the American Birkebeiner without knowing how to skate ski. We both learned to skate ski and finished the race (very slowly). I was hooked with Birkie fever while my brother called me a fool, swore he’d never ski another 50k, and signed up for the Korte.

Why was your first time on XC skis memorable? It was a long time ago, probably at English Point in Hayden. I remember being really sweaty. 

What's the first thing you think about (and do) every winter morning? Drink a quart of water then hike (or snowshoe) up the hill with my dog!

How long have you been playing on skinny skis? I'm new to it all in the last 4 years!

Let's hear about your favorite memorable experience on XC skis. A few winters ago, I traveled to Canmore and skate skied (poorly) on the trails that were home to 1988 Winter Olympics. Flailing about–but to the tune of swishing snow, and against a backdrop of sun and mountains–I knew this XC ski business might just be for me.

What else do you do in the winter besides ski at Pine Street Woods with the Youth Ski League? Snowboard, snowshoe, make snow-angels, and hibernate.

Why was your first time on XC skis memorable? My second time trying XC skiing I decided to go big and drive out to Ross Creek Cedars. The day was filled with lots of falling, laughing, and gorgeous views . 

What else do you do in the winter besides ski at Pine Street Woods with the Youth Ski League? I'm a fresh air fiend that enjoys just about every outdoor activity. In the winter I like to snowboard, snowshoe, ski-blade, run, and bike. You name it, I'm there.

How long have you been playing on skinny skis? Since I was a kid

Let's hear about your favorite memorable experience on XC skis. I love skiing in the dark- a long tour up Independence Pass in Colorado under a full moon, a freezing cold nighttime descent from Moraine Lake in Canada, and evening skates at Pine Street Woods are up there as some of my favorite memories.

What else do you do in the winter besides ski at Pine Street Woods with the Youth Ski League? Skiing at Schweitzer, adventures with my kids, and jigsaw puzzles.

What's your favorite part about coaching? I love the connecting that happens and how a spark of an idea grows into a flame and takes hold.  

What are your favorite trails you've ever skied? Beaver Creek, Colorado.  All of the nordic trails are at the top of the mountain!

What's your favorite snack to eat while XC skiing?  Anything with peanut butter!

Why was your first time on XC skis memorable?  This was many years ago when I was teaching alpine skiing.  I figured, "how hard can it be to skate ski?"  I soon found out!  The course was so hilly and the skis were soooo skinny.  There was a lot of falling and crashing into snow banks and a lot of laughter.

What's the first thing you think about (and do) every winter morning? I say good morning to all of my animals, drink some coffee and plan what outdoor adventure is in store for the day.

What's your favorite part about working with kids? I love working with kids because they are a constant reminder that life is meant to be lived joyfully and full of fun.
