Homeschool Field Trip Opportunity!

Note-  This day is full. No more seats are available.  We may do another one in early march Stay tuned!

The Sandpoint Nordic Club has set  Thursday February 13, from 11:30-1:30 as a field trip day for homeschool kids to get outside and enjoy cross-country skiing at Pine Street Woods. We have 30 slots for kid skiers.
We will provide skis  and a leader who will provide some rudimentary instruction and be a guide on some of the Pine Street Woods trails, returning to the rec center for some hot cocoa. Our target age range is 8-12 year olds. Older kids could come and strike out on their own sooner. Younger ones could come, if they have a parent to back them up and be ready to ski and stay with them. We don't have gear for kids much younger than 6.  Parents can ski too, we will charge a rental fee of $5 for the second parent of each family.
In keeping with our club's mission of accessible and affordable cross country skiing for our entire community, there is no charge for this program, but donations to the Nordic club are welcome.  We will be sending a release to each family that signs up to bring with you on Feb. 13.
Message with questions or email sandpointnordic@gmail.com. In the mean time- Keep doing your snow dances, sleep with your jammies inside out, a spoon under your pillow, and sleep with your skis!

SNC School Program

Our School Program is a fantastic way to get your students outdoors, active, and learning this winter!

Designed for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in the Lake Pend Oreille School District, local private schools, and homeschoolers, our goal is to expose kids to the life long sport of cross-country skiing and to educate them on the history, conservation, and trails of Pine Street Woods.

The program includes the following:

  • 20 minute, pre field trip lesson, designed by Kaniksu Land Trust (owners of Pine Street Woods), for teachers to build student learning about their community forest.

  • Two hour off-site at Pine Street Woods

  • Cross country ski or snowshoe equipment outfitting for each student

  • Introduction to cross country skiing led by knowledgeable volunteer skiers

  • Guided tour around Pine Street Woods

  • Hot cocoa post-skiing :)

  • A coupon for a return trip offering free skiing for the student and half price for their family

We encourage teachers and parents to participate as well. Parent volunteers are helpful for getting kids in their gear!
